EURC Attends 2023 Inter-Counties Match

Updated: Jun 14, 2023

The weekend of the 10th and 11th of June saw four competitors head up to the Bisley National shooting centre in Surrey. Henry Waldern, George Oliver, Sophie Hodge and Josh Prout competed in the weekend's competitions, with Henry coming away with a well-deserved win in the U23 category.

In the R. Jarvis Individual Match, on the Saturday morning, the following was scored:

Competitor

300 x

500 x

600 x

Totals

Henry Waldern

35.4v

35.5v

35.3v

105.12v

George Oliver

27.1v

33.2v

32.1v

92.4v

Josh Prout

30.2v

31.1v

30.0v

91.3v

After a questionable 300 yard performance from George, we fell back to 500, and shortly after, 600 yards, to finish with George and Josh coming 9th and 10th respectively in the U23 category (with just one bull and one V in it)!

The Saturday shoots were all 2 sighters and 7 shots to count, meaning a 'possible' score would be 35.X (which Henry managed to achieve every time), and an 'actual' - highest achievable - score would be 35.7. This was a great opportunity particularly for Josh and George to get their eyes in ahead of this summer's Imperial. Learn more about this event on our 'Fullbore' page!

Luckily this was no issue as the three competitors each went on to get their highest scores for the entire competition at this distance.

Moving onto the Saturday afternoon, Sophie Hodge shot the counties team match, for Berkshire, putting in an incredible performance dropping only a few points across the whole weekend!

Thanks in part to Sophie's great performance, Berkshire went on to place 5th in the team match, a great result for all involved.

The team eventually cooled off with an ice cold beverage (or two) in the Surrey clubhouse following the events. If this is something you'd like to get involved in, keep an eye out on our socials for membership coming out near the start of term! We look forward to seeing you on the range!
